The Righteous Shall Live

SJP Fasting Reminder Header

"You are [easily] deceived, because you don't know the scriptures or the power of God."

                                                                                                                    -  Matt 22:29

"[Evil] comes to steal and kill and destroy."                                            -  John 10:10

One of the great debates within the protestant church is the concept that all one has to do to gain heaven is proclaim Jesus is Savior one time in life. Some believe that even if one was to then lead a life of complete evil, that one proclamation is all that is needed to gain heaven.

A challenge with this belief is that scripture is full of specific quotes that say the opposite. For example, in 1 Cor. 6:9-10:

... do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Today, the most widely studied New Testament passage in the world also touched on the topic of believers not entering into heaven. Romans 1:16-18

"He who through faith is righteous shall live." 18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of men who by their wickedness suppress the truth.

The intersection of justice and mercy was on the cross where Jesus took on our sins … But His distinct words of justice suggest heaven is not a free lunch.

Does purgatory bridge the two realities of mercy and justice? While we all hope the protestant view that purgatory does not exist is truth, there have been many experiences of believers and words from sites such as Fatima that suggest purgatory exists.

What is purgatory? A place where we will choose to go ourselves to atone for our sins. Why would we choose this? Once we look in God’s eyes and see ourselves as God sees us, we will desire to purify ourselves before coming into His presence. It is a place of perfect justice where we realize how no sin was worth it and cherish every prayer, grace and sacrifice that we made in life. Then, once sins are atoned for, souls will then enter into heaven ... for eternity.

While some dismiss this as a demonic teaching minimalizing God’s mercy, do you know anyone who believes in purgatory who is not motivated to sin less? Why would evil want to inculcate such a tangible example of the fear of the Lord?

What is the purgatory experience? Think of what Jesus suffered on Good Friday as similar to the experience we will endure in purgatory.

In light of that possibility, is taking the Lord’s name really worth it?

Is working on the Sabbath really that important?

How preferable it is to atone for sins before we die.

Remember Jesus’ words to Conchita Cabrera – Sin is so offensive to God, He would go through Good Friday again rather than seeing Our Father offended by just by one more sin.

Mindboggling – but one day that will be our perspective too.

While the bible has been shortened and no longer carries the passages that explicitly name abortion as sin or the obligation of believers to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays, know that first century writings also show believers clearly prayed for the dead. Those who walked in Jesus’ time prayed for God’s mercy upon the deceased.

On one occasion the Mother of the Redeemer suggested that many souls linger in purgatory because no one prays for them. She went so far as to ask us to pray continually for souls in purgatory.

Even if the possibility of purgatory has not been something you contemplated before, may we suggest that when you think of the deceased you ask for God’s mercy upon them if they are in need of it.

Thank you for fasting with us tomorrow. You will be glad you made the effort for all of eternity.

Why We Fast – Our Core Fasting Intentions

1) We add the new fasting intention of taking back the church from evil. We submit the three-step process to achieve this victory is 1-Repent, 2-Prayer & Fasting and, 3-Imitate our Savior by throwing the evil leadership from the church. We will seek to emulate the Savior in our effort to End The USCCB, an organization that has been devastating to the church.  (“You shall know the spirit by the fruits” - Matt. 7:16)

2) For the Holy Spirit to reign down upon America, renewing our land as the Christian, capitalist meritocracy we were founded to be.

3) For the protection of our police, firefighters, military and their families from harm and that the Lord bless their courageous generosity on our behalf.

4) For the protection of the families who fast with us, and for God’s blessings of abundance upon them and that true to His word, we will be able to witness that He prospered us in famine.

Would you like to learn more about fasting?

We maintain a repository of ideas and information we have learned over the last decade while fasting weekly for America. From scientific studies on the benefits of fasting, to the differences between intermittent dieting vs intermittent fasting, to scriptural references regarding the power of fasting to the history of first century Christians who stated believers are obligated to fast weekly, we hope you will find numerous insights with our free resource located here.

Together let us also implore Heaven while fasting for intentions you have highlighted:

4) For all patriots who put themselves on the front lines in combatting evil and for all of the warriors who are stepping up around the nation to fight for the gospel – May The Father cover them in the blood of our savior,  protect them and their families from evil and bring victory to their endeavors.

5) For priests, ministers and all who aspire to lead others to the Lord, that the Holy Spirit will reign down upon them as at Pentecost filling them to overflowing.

6) For the Americans jailed after January 6th who were admitted to the Capitol building by the police, and who were not found to have destroyed any property at the capitol yet who have been held captive ever since on our own soil - That God's Spirit will move quickly to bring justice back to this land and free them.
