Dear Sisters and Brothers, we welcome you back from the Easter Octave.  Our Orthodox brothers and sisters use the greeting:

 Christ is risen! Indeed, He is risen!

…for 40 days after Easter, so why shouldn’t we? Even for our secular friends, we could wish them a Happy Easter, and in response to their quizzical looks, we could explain that we celebrate for 40 days. No big lecture...just a little seed dropped. 

I hope you all remembered that last week there was no fasting due to the Easter Octave. Clearly not! The Christ had risen from the dead. This was a time for mind blowing conversations with other disciples in which they likely would have conversations like this:

Peter:“Remember He took us aside when we were going to Jerusalem, and He literally said that everything written by the prophets about the Son of Man would be fulfilled- how He would be handed over to the Gentiles, and He would be mocked and spat upon and later scourged!”                             (Luke 18:31ff)

John: “I watched that in real time!”

Thaddeus: “ And then He said that after the scourging, that they would kill Him, and that on the third day that He would rise!” 

Matthew:“Why couldn’t we understand what He was saying?? He told us exactly what would happen!”

James:“And we even saw Him raise Lazarus from the dead!”

Peter:“Why were we so clueless??? Why did we think he was talking figuratively?”

Friends, their excitement was so profound, yet it is so difficult for those of us raised in and around Christianity, with 20/20 hindsight vision, to experience the same wonder at the miracle. 

That is why we MUST make a big deal out of Easter’s 40 days. We cannot simply wish Christian culture back, we have to live it back in each one of our homes, our domestic churches. Therefore, let us keep inviting guests over, especially on Sunday. Let’s have lavish foods, drinks, and desserts. Let’s keep the conversation going about what happened in the Roman Empire 2000 years ago- how the crucifixion of the scapegoat in order to “save the nation” took down the entire Roman Empire! Fresh flowers, movies like “Risen,” or pilgrimages “because it’s Easter” can all help to live back Christian culture long after the plastic eggs are gone in the stores. Why We Fast – Our Core Fasting Intentions

1) For the Holy Spirit to reign down upon America renewing our land as the Christian, capitalist meritocracy we were founded to be.

2) For the protection of our police, firefighters, military and their families from harm and that the Lord bless their courageous generosity on our behalf one hundredfold.

3) For the protection of the families who fast with us, and for God’s blessings of abundance upon them and that true to His word, we will be able to witness that He prospered us in famine.

4) For Mike Lindell who is putting himself on the front lines suing over the election fraud that has taken place and for all of the warriors who are stepping up around the nation to fight for the gospel – May The Father cover them in the blood of our savior,  protect them and their families from evil and bring victory to their endeavors.

5) For priests, ministers and all who aspire to lead others to the Lord, that the Holy Spirit will reign down upon them as at Pentecost filling them to overflowing with an understanding of what the Lord wants, courage and the desire to preach what He would have them preach and protection and strength from all evil that comes against them. 

6) For the Americans jailed after January 6th who were admitted to the Capitol building by the police, and who were not found to have destroyed any property at the capitol yet who have been held captive ever since on our own soil - That God's Spirit will move quickly to bring justice back to this land by freeing them while enlightening Americans how to bring God's justice back to our nation.
